Adults with ADHD

5 Hurtful Phrases to Never Say to Adults with ADHD (and How to Empower Them Instead)

Today, we’re embarking on an exciting journey through the intriguing maze that is adults with ADHD. We’re going to delve into the depths of the ADHD mind, identifying five phrases that are like a lightning bolt to a neurodivergent person’s emotional well-being. But don’t fear! We won’t leave you navigating this maze without a map. For each verbal pothole, we’ll provide a bridge—a more empathetic, supportive response that fosters understanding rather than stigma. So, ready your mental gears, and let’s set off! 1. “Why don’t you just try harder?” The age-old question that is as ineffective as a water pistol against a dragon. It insinuates that ADHD in adults is merely an issue of effort, not a neurological condition. Instead, try: “I see you’re wrestling with this task. Could a different method or tool make it more approachable?” This acknowledges their struggle without casting blame and encourages them to apply their unique cognitive style. 2. “You’re just using ADHD as an excuse.” This phrase delivers a blow that can be hard to recover from. It dismisses their experience and suggests they are lazy. However, adults with ADHD often pedal twice as hard in a neurotypical race—they’re not seeking excuses but understanding. Instead, try: “I realize that ADHD could create unique hurdles. Let’s explore strategies that are specially designed for you.” This sentiment validates their experience and supports them in finding practical solutions. 3. “ADHD isn’t real.” Dismissing ADHD as a myth is akin to denying gravity because it’s invisible. ADHD in adults is a well-documented neurological condition, not a figment of the imagination. Instead, try: “Share more about your experience with ADHD. I want to better understand your world.” This invites them to express their perspective, fostering empathy and connection. 4. “Everyone’s a little ADHD sometimes.” Imagine nursing a sprained ankle and hearing, “Everyone trips sometimes.” It’s dismissive and minimizes the constant hurdles someone with ADHD faces. Instead, try: “I might not fully grasp your experience, but I’m here to support you.” This statement expresses empathy and a willingness to assist, even without fully comprehending their journey. 5. “You don’t look like you have ADHD.” Ah, the old trap of judging a book by its cover! ADHD doesn’t come with a uniform—it’s a spectrum disorder, with each manifestation as unique as the individual. Instead, try: “I understand ADHD impacts everyone differently. How does it affect you?” This response acknowledges the diversity within the ADHD community and invites further dialogue. Now that we’ve navigated the verbal potholes, how can we genuinely help an adult with ADHD? Two strategies can make a world of difference: the Get in Focus Challenge and hiring a virtual assistant trained in working with ADHDers. Top Courses by Jeff Levine is a productivity booster explicitly designed for the ADHD mind. It’s a fun, interactive, and ADHD-friendly way to enhance focus and productivity. Encourage your ADHD colleague to take up this empowering challenge. Similarly, a virtual assistant trained in ADHD support can be a game-changer. These professionals, which can be found at Get in Focus VA, understand the unique challenges and strengths of adults with ADHD. They can provide tailored support, helping them better manage their time, prioritize tasks, and reduce stress. In conclusion, the keys to unlocking fruitful conversations with adults with ADHD are empathy, understanding, and a dash of humor. We’re all on this rollercoaster of life together—let’s ensure everyone is strapped in and having a blast. As we venture on, remember that empathy is a potent tool, and it’s always better to extend a hand than point a finger. Until our next adventure, keep those minds open and those conversations kind.

Conquer Cataclysmic Cat Distractions

5 Ways to Conquer Cataclysmic Cat Distractions While Working from Home

What cat distractions while working from home are you encountering? Well, you are communicating with a client on LinkedIn messenger. The client is telling you a significant concern, and BINGO! Your kitty jumps on your keyboard, moves around, types in a bunch of garbage, then sits on the RETURN key! …Or you are in a Zoom meeting, you are discussing a critical point with your team, about to land the climax. All of a sudden, the cat jumps in front of the camera. Suddenly, the mood that you had worked so hard to establish is shattered. Your brilliant presentation was hijacked by your feline friend. Your team is just ooohing and ahhing over your feline friend, forgetting everything you have just said! … Or, the little critter jumps on your lap while you are working, you rub its neck, it purrs loudly. but suddenly, it changes its mind, deciding it doesn’t want to be touched, starts to hiss, and before you can get away, you have a big scratch on your cheek! Few Cat Distractions While Working from Home My wife and I have two Siamese cats: Lucy and Ty, whom we love dearly. They rather enjoy making our remote work life miserable by jumping on the keyboard or in front of the monitor at the most inopportune times. It’s guaranteed that when I am in a zoom meeting, one of the cats will jump in front of the monitor. The more important the meeting, the more havoc the little monster will create. Now you may be thinking, “Why don’t you just bring the little monsters to the humane society?” Well, because we love our little friends, so that isn’t an option. But we have had to think of how to deal with the cat distractions while working from home. Here are some ideas for dealing with cat distractions: 1) Place a box near the workspace. Cats love boxes. With one nearby, the little critter will go for the box instead of your keyboard. In my case, I need two boxes because if I only had one, the two of them would be fighting all day over the box. Make the box comfortable with a blanket or pillow in it. 2) Keep treats nearby; when the cat goes for the keyboard, I throw a treat, and she goes running after it. The problem with this is it trains the kitty that if she sits on your keyboard, she gets a treat; then again, cats usually have the upper hand anyway. 3) Put the kitties in a different room with toys, a litter box, and food and shut the door. I really hate this one, but sometimes it is necessary. I only use this one when it is imperative that the cat not sit herself on my keyboard or in front of my monitor, like when I am having a coaching or discovery session with a client or prospective client. There is nothing more distracting to a meeting than having a cute little kitty cat zoom bomb your appointment. 4) Give in and play with the kitty for a few minutes. In working from home, to be efficient, one needs to take frequent breaks. I take 5-minute breaks every 25 minutes and a 15-minute to 1-hour break every hour. I take the break to play with my critters for a few minutes. The kitties love to play, and all they really want when they are sitting on the keyboard is your love and attention. Taking a few minutes to play with them can not only give them that love but elevate your spirits as well. 5) This is a great one that a friend told me about. Get a keyboard drawer. With my keyboard drawer, there is no longer any space for the little kitty to jump up on the keyboard. This has saved me much time and grief in cat distractions while working from home. I trust that these tips are helpful to you in being a remote worker/cat owner (both are full time jobs!) in dealing with cat distractions, but what about some of the other distractions that prevent you from fully realizing your dream? The answer is to call Dr. Get in Focus; he can show you! CBD to Manage ADHD

CBD and ADHD : 5 Dynamic Reasons to use CBD to Manage ADHD

People ask me questions about CBD and ADHD. Please note I am NOT a Medical Doctor, so if you have ADHD, please check with your doctor first. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a mental health disorder that affects millions of people around the world. It can cause difficulty in focusing, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. While there is no cure for ADHD, treatments are available to help manage symptoms. One such treatment is cannabidiol (CBD), which has been gaining popularity as an alternative therapy for ADHD. Here we will explore the synergies between CBD and ADHD CBD is a compound found in cannabis plants that does not have psychoactive properties like its cousin THC, so it won’t get you “high.” Research suggests that CBD and ADHD may indeed be a match made in heaven, treating the symptoms of ADHD by helping to reduce anxiety and improve focus and concentration. Here are five ways CBD can help people with ADHD: 1. Reducing Anxiety People with ADHD often experience high anxiety levels due to their inability to focus or concentrate on the tasks at hand. CBD has been shown to reduce anxiety levels by interacting with serotonin receptors in the brain, which helps regulate mood and stress levels. This can help people with ADHD feel more relaxed and better able to focus on their tasks without feeling overwhelmed or anxious. 2. Improving Concentration One of the most common symptoms of ADHD is difficulty concentrating on tasks for extended periods. Studies have shown that CBD may improve concentration by increasing blood flow to the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for executive functions like decision-making and problem-solving. This can help people with ADHD stay focused on their tasks longer without getting distracted easily or losing interest quickly. 3. Enhancing Memory People with ADHD often struggle with memory problems due to their inability to focus or concentrate on tasks long enough to commit them to memory properly. Research suggests that CBD may enhance memory by increasing the formation of new neurons in the brain’s hippocampus region, which plays a key role in memory formation and recall. This could help people with ADHD remember things more easily and retain information over time. 4. Regulating Moods People with ADHD often experience mood swings due to their inability to control impulses or emotions effectively. Studies suggest that CBD may be effective in regulating moods by interacting with serotonin receptors in the brain, which helps regulate feelings of happiness and well-being, stress levels, and anxiety responses. This could help people with ADHD manage their emotions more effectively without feeling overwhelmed or out of control during difficult situations or stress. 5 . Improving Sleep Quality: CBD and ADHD and Catching the “Zs” People with ADHD often struggle with sleep problems due to difficulty concentrating or staying focused on tasks long enough to relax before bedtime or fall asleep. Studies suggest that CBD may be beneficial in improving sleep quality by reducing anxiety levels and calming racing thoughts. This could help people get better sleep each night, allowing them to wake up feeling refreshed instead of tired throughout the day. So, as for the question of CBD and ADHD, overall, research suggests that CBD may be an effective alternative therapy for treating symptoms associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Reducing anxiety, improving concentration, enhancing memory, regulating moods, and improving sleep quality can help those living with this condition manage their symptoms more effectively. However, speaking with your doctor before trying new treatments regarding CBD and ADHD, or for matter, taking anything for treatment, is important. ADHD and Entrepreneurship

5 Unforgettable Ways Southpark Boosts ADHD and Entrepreneurship

ADHD and Entrepreneurship: Hello, high-flying ADHD entrepreneurs! As your resident ADHD and entrepreneurship guru, I’m here to offer a fresh and, dare I say, slightly absurd take on mastering focus and productivity. Ever thought that Southpark, our beloved, politically incorrect cartoon, could hold the key to managing your ADHD superpowers? Well, strap in, folks. We’re about to dive into the chaotic world of Southpark and unearth some ADHD gold. Lesson 1: Embrace Your Inner Cartman Yes, you read that right. Eric Cartman, the show’s most notorious character, might be your unexpected ADHD role model. Now, I’m not suggesting you adopt his questionable ethics or his penchant for causing mayhem. But Cartman’s relentless pursuit of his (often outrageous) goals? That’s something we can get behind. So, channel your inner Cartman and let your passion drive you toward success. Just try not to get arrested in the process. Lesson 2: Surviving the Southpark Chaos with a Virtual Assistant Southpark is nothing if not chaotic, and for those of us with ADHD, it can feel eerily familiar. But remember, our favorite Southpark residents always find a way to navigate the madness. So, when your entrepreneurial journey feels like a never-ending episode of Southpark, take a deep breath, prioritize your tasks, and keep going. You’ve got this. And if you need a little help along the way, that’s where our virtual assistant services at Dr. Get In Focus come in. Please think of us as your very own Chef, offering advice and support for ADHD and entrepreneurship when needed. Lesson 3: The Power of ‘Screw You Guys, I’m Going Home’ One of Cartman’s most famous lines might be the secret to managing ADHD in the workplace. Sometimes, you must say, “Screw you guys, I’m going home,” to distractions and focus on what’s important. And if you need a little help along the way, our virtual assistant services are here to help. We are the ultimate Virtual Assistant for ADHDers! We’ll handle the distractions so you can focus on what you do best. Lesson 4: Embrace the Unexpected Southpark is full of unexpected twists and turns, as is the life of an entrepreneur with ADHD. So, embrace it. Use your unique perspective to come up with innovative solutions and ideas. Who knows? You might stumble upon the next big thing in your industry. And with a virtual assistant by your side, you’ll have the support you need to turn those ideas into reality. Essential to ADHD and Entrepreneurship! Lesson 5: Learn from the Best (and Worst) Southpark’s characters are a diverse bunch, each with their strengths and weaknesses. As an entrepreneur with ADHD, you can learn a lot from them. From Cartman’s unwavering determination (minus the manipulation) to Stan’s ability to stay calm under pressure, there’s a wealth of wisdom to be found in the wacky world of Southpark. So, don’t be afraid to take a page out of their book. After all, if they can survive the chaos of Southpark, they can undoubtedly handle the challenges of entrepreneurship. And with our virtual assistant services, you’ll have the support you need every step of the way. Turn ADHD into Your Superpower Southpark teaches us that being different isn’t a bad thing. It can be a superpower. The same goes for ADHD and Entrepreneurship. Yes, it comes with its challenges, but it also comes with a unique set of strengths. Creativity, innovation, and the ability to think outside the box are all traits that can set you apart in the entrepreneurial world. So, embrace your ADHD. Harness it. Use it to your advantage. And remember, at Dr. Get In Focus, we’re here to help you turn your ADHD from a challenge into a superpower. So, let’s do this, entrepreneurs. Respect my authoritah! ADHD Business Owner

Affluent ADHD Business Owner: Conquer the Terrifying Time Crunch with 5 Proven Strategies

As an affluent ADHD business owner, you’ve grown quite accustomed to the electric energy of the eleventh-hour scramble. It’s an adrenaline-fueled tango, an exhilarating dance that brings a peculiar kind of satisfaction. You rush, you hustle, you improvise, and somehow, miraculously, everything falls into place. Well, most of the time, anyway. But have you ever stopped to ask, “Why does it always come down to the wire?” Why does the ADHD brain seem so enthralled by the heart-thumping pressure of an encroaching deadline? In the fascinating labyrinth of the ADHD brain, our perception of time is, let’s say, a bit Picasso-esque. Instead of viewing time as a linear sequence of orderly blocks, the ADHD mind experiences it more abstractly. It’s a phenomenon called “time blindness.” Essentially, the concept of time for the ADHD brain feels as nebulous as trying to catch smoke with a butterfly net. Many people facing issues from AHDH and searching for Adult ADHD Treatments. but don’t know how to solve this issue, where Dr. get in focus can help you here. Strategies for ADHD Business Owner The thrill of the last-minute rush, the exhilarating dance with the looming deadline, is a means for the brain to self-medicate, to quench its thirst for stimulation, excitement, and yes, even a bit of chaos. The ticking clock becomes an external motivator, an unseen partner leading you in the time crunch tango. But let’s be honest here. While there is a certain romantic charm in these last-minute bravado performances, they don’t exactly lend themselves to a sustainable, stress-free entrepreneurial journey. Especially when you’re dealing with high stakes as an affluent ADHD business owner. So, how can we outsmart our time-blindness and make the time tango a bit less frantic and a lot more harmonious? Mastering the Mini-Deadlines: Transform your mountainous tasks into manageable molehills. Break your project into smaller, micro-tasks, each with its own deadline. It’s like creating a delightful tapas menu for your ADHD brain, a series of mini-finish lines to cross and savor. Physical Planners for the Win: In our digital age, this might seem anachronistic. But hear me out. There’s something very grounding about putting pen to paper, about tangibly charting your plans and deadlines. Plus, you get to choose fancy stationery and colorful pens, which is a treat in itself. Accountability Anchors: Having someone to hold you accountable can create an external motivation source that your brain craves. This person could be a mentor, a business partner, or even a professional coach. Just remember, this person should understand your unique ADHD experience. You want a partner, not a parole officer. Mindfulness Magic: If time blindness is the villain of our story, mindfulness could very well be our superhero. By training your brain to focus on the present moment, mindfulness can help you cultivate a healthier relationship with time. Start with just a couple of minutes a day. It might feel like trying to calm a bunch of excited puppies at first, but stick with it. The benefits are worth it. Tech Tools and Tricks: From project management apps like Asana to note-taking apps like Evernote, there’s an entire digital arsenal designed to keep you organized. Find the ones that best suit your needs and let technology be your sidekick in this entrepreneurial journey. Remember, affluent ADHD business owners, each brain is unique, so some strategies might work better for you than others. It’s all about personalization. It’s about knowing your strengths, understanding your challenges, and then creating a strategy that works with your brain, not against it. After all, we’re not trying to stifle the creative, energetic, boundary-pushing force that makes you the successful entrepreneur you are. Instead, it’s about making the entrepreneurial journey less of a mad scramble and more of a paced, enjoyable ride. The journey of the affluent ADHD business owner is an adventure filled with creative sparks, boundary-pushing ideas, and, yes, a fair share of last-minute sprints. But with these strategies, you can start harmonizing with the time tango, leading the dance instead of being led. So, affluent ADHD business owners, are you ready to take the lead? If so, then it is time to set up your session with me, Dr Get in Focus himself, Jeff Levine, PhD. This is a free session to get you started on the road to Getting in Focus and skyrocketing your productivity! Even there is Top Courses by Jeff Levine, that can help you more.

ADHD in Relationships: The 3 Powerful Points to manage

ADHD in Relationships… Oy Gavult! You’ve entered the Twilight Zone!  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has always been the elephant in the room in my relationship.  As my beautiful wife says, “your ADHD is my OCD!. She is a saint! She tolerates my forgetfulness in turning lights off and even forgetting to shut the door when I leave the house. We’ve been married almost 25 years, and although she is very loving about it, sometimes I really frustrate her! ADHD can significantly impact personal relationships. Individuals with ADHD may struggle with communication, organization, and time management, leading to misunderstandings, conflict, and stress. However, with some effort and communication, individuals with ADHD can manage their relationships more effectively and turn them into assets rather than hindrances. The Challenges of ADHD in Relationships One of the most significant challenges of ADHD in relationships is communication. Individuals with ADHD may have difficulty listening attentively, following conversations, and expressing themselves clearly. This can lead to misunderstandings, frustration, and conflict with their partners, family members, or friends. Another challenge of ADHD in relationships is organization and time management. Individuals with ADHD may struggle with keeping track of appointments, deadlines, and responsibilities. This can lead to forgetfulness, missed deadlines, and stress, affecting their relationships. Finally, impulsivity is another challenge of ADHD in relationships. Individuals with ADHD may act impulsively without considering the consequences, leading to conflict and misunderstandings with their loved ones. Strategies for Managing ADHD in Relationships Despite the challenges of ADHD in relationships, individuals with ADHD can take steps to manage their symptoms and build stronger connections with their loved ones. One effective strategy for managing ADHD in relationships is to communicate openly and honestly. It is essential to be transparent about ADHD symptoms, how they affect you, and what you need from your loved ones to support you. Being open and honest can help your loved ones understand your struggles and work together to find solutions. Another strategy is to set realistic expectations for yourself and others. Be honest about what you can and cannot do and set achievable goals. This can help prevent misunderstandings and disappointment. Using technology can also help manage ADHD symptoms. There are many tools available that can help you stay organized and on top of your responsibilities. For example, you can use a digital calendar to schedule appointments, set reminders, and track deadlines. Creating structure and routine is another effective strategy for managing ADHD symptoms. You can create a daily schedule that includes work, exercise, relaxation, and spending time with loved ones. This can help you manage your symptoms and reduce stress. Active listening is another strategy for managing ADHD in relationships. Active listening involves giving your full attention to the person speaking and trying to understand their point of view. Active listening can help you build stronger connections with your loved ones and improve communication. Finally, seeking professional support can help manage ADHD symptoms and build stronger relationships. Working with a therapist, coach, or counselor can help you develop strategies for managing your symptoms, improve your communication skills, and build stronger relationships. Relationship Issues and Entrepreneurship Relationship issues can also significantly impact entrepreneurship, both positively and negatively. A supportive and stable relationship can give entrepreneurs the emotional and practical support they need to pursue their goals and overcome the challenges of starting and running a business. On the other hand, relationship issues such as conflict, stress, and lack of support can create significant barriers to success. Managing relationships can be challenging for individuals with ADHD. Still, with some effort and communication, relationships can become an asset rather than a hindrance. By using the above strategies and building strong and supportive relationships, individuals with ADHD can turn their relationships into assets and create fulfilling and successful personal and professional lives without driving their partners crazy.
