5 Steps to ADHD Entrepreneur Success: My Journey from Unemployment to PhD and Empowering Remote Entrepreneurs

From Schlemiel to Mensch:  My Secret to ADHD Entrepreneur Success My secret to ADHD Entrepreneur Success must start with the definition of two Yiddish terms, a schlemiel and a mensch.  Picture yourself at a dinner party where chaos and kindness collide: one clumsy guest sends a glass of wine crashing to the floor, while another swoops in to save the day. Meet the schlemiel and the mensch – two contrasting Yiddish terms. The lovable schlemiel brings humor and mishaps to any situation, while the reliable mensch acts as a human security blanket, making everything feel better just by being around. There was a time in my life when I found myself unemployed, despite being a skilled software engineer. I was repeatedly overlooked for jobs due to my lack of a formal degree. This led me on an incredible journey to further my education and overcome the challenges of ADHD. Little did I know that my research would become immensely relevant in the age of remote work and lead to ADHD Entrepreneur Success. Along the way, I discovered techniques to manage my ADHD and have since dedicated myself to coaching other entrepreneurs and remote workers. Here is my story and the lessons I’ve learned that can help others. The Journey Back to School Determined to overcome the barriers that stood in my way, I decided to go back to school. I knew that earning my degrees would not only open new doors for my career but also provide me with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of my field. I pursued and earned a BA, MA, and PhD. My passion for research led me to write a dissertation on working from home in May 2019, just before the world would realize the full potential of remote work. The Challenge of Achieving ADHD Entrepreneur Success Earning my degrees was not an easy feat. I had to confront my ADHD and find strategies to manage my lack of focus. Throughout my academic journey, I discovered several techniques that allowed me to cope with my ADHD and excel in my studies. These strategies included: 1) Breaking tasks into smaller, manageable pieces: I learned that tackling large tasks all at once could be overwhelming, especially for someone with ADHD. By breaking tasks into smaller pieces, I could maintain my focus and work more effectively. 2) Using timers and productivity tools to maintain focus: I incorporated the Pomodoro Technique into my routine, which involves working for 25 minutes and then taking a 5-minute break. This helped me stay focused and motivated during my study sessions. 3) Creating a designated workspace to minimize distractions: I realized the importance of having a separate workspace to reduce distractions and maintain a productive environment. I set up a home office, which allowed me to establish boundaries between work and leisure. 4) Prioritizing self-care and maintaining a healthy work-life balance: To manage stress and prevent burnout, I incorporated regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep into my routine. Additionally, I made time for hobbies and social activities to maintain a well-rounded life. 5) Forgiving myself and others for my perceived failures.  I wasn’t a schlemiel!  I have a neurological condition that makes it challenging to focus!    I had to learn to forgive myself for doing stuff like forgetting to turn off my car or wearing two different shoes, and forgive the laughter and criticism from the people in my life when I did that Empowering Others as a Coach As I learned to manage for increased ADHD Entrepreneur Success, I realized that my newfound techniques could be invaluable to other entrepreneurs and remote workers. This realization inspired me to become a coach, guiding individuals in their journey to overcome their ADHD and achieve success in both their personal and professional lives. In my coaching practice, I share the lessons I’ve learned and offer guidance on how to: 1) Leverage ADHD strengths to enhance creativity and problem-solving skills: I help my clients recognize and harness their unique qualities, such as adaptability and innovative thinking, to drive their success as entrepreneurs and remote workers. 2) Implement routines and structures to manage ADHD symptoms effectively: I work with clients to establish daily routines, set clear goals, and create organized workspaces, which can significantly improve focus and productivity. 3) Utilize technology and tools to boost productivity and maintain focus: I introduce clients to various productivity apps, tools, and techniques, like the Pomodoro Technique, which can help them stay on track and minimize distractions. 4) Foster strong communication and collaboration skills in remote work environments: I teach clients the importance of effective communication and provide strategies for building strong relationships with team members, even when working remotely. This includes using collaboration tools and understanding the nuances of virtual communication. 5) Develop resilience and adaptability to overcome challenges: I encourage my clients to adopt a growth mindset and be open to learning from setbacks. I help them build resilience by focusing on self-improvement and embracing change as an opportunity for growth. My journey from an unemployed software engineer to ADHD Entrepreneur Success and being a coach demonstrates that it is possible to overcome the challenges of ADHD and achieve great things. With determination, perseverance, and the right strategies in place, individuals with ADHD can not only excel academically and professionally but also help others do the same. By following the 5 steps outlined above and seeking support when needed, you too can thrive with ADHD and empower others in the rapidly growing world of remote entrepreneurship. I-Ching Productivity: A Spectacular 4 Step Algorithm to Skyrocketing Productivity

How you can use the Collective Unconscious to Multiply Results with I-Ching Productivity I-Ching Productivity, you ask? In today’s fast-paced world, finding the key to unlocking our full potential and enhancing productivity can seem elusive. However, we can access a powerful source of guidance and insight by delving into the ancient wisdom of the I-Ching and tapping into Jung’s concept of the collective unconscious. The I-Ching, a 3,000-year-old Chinese oracle, serves as a unique algorithm to the collective unconscious, granting us access to the reservoir of shared human experiences, archetypes, and symbols. This article will explore the fascinating connection between the I-Ching and the collective unconscious. We will also reveal how this ancient wisdom can help us skyrocket productivity and achieve inner balance. I know when some people hear I-Ching, they immediately think fortune telling. Still, pioneering psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) said it was much more. Jung developed the concept of the collective unconscious, a shared reservoir of human experiences, archetypes, and symbols. The I-Ching taps into this collective unconscious by functioning as an algorithm that allows us to access and interpret this wealth of knowledge, offering insights and guidance. I-Ching Productivity: A Primer At its core, the I-Ching is a collection of 64 hexagrams, each representing a unique combination of six lines that are either solid (yang) or broken (yin). These hexagrams symbolize the ever-changing nature of existence and the interconnectedness of all things. By consulting the I-Ching, one can access its wisdom and guidance, drawing from the collective unconscious to gain clarity and perspective. The Algorithm of the Collective Unconscious The power of I-Ching productivity lies in its ability to tap into the collective unconscious, a term coined by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. According to Jung, the collective unconscious is a reservoir of shared human experiences, archetypes, and symbols. The I-Ching functions as an algorithm that allows us to access and interpret this vast storehouse of knowledge. When we consult the I-Ching, we engage with a system refined over thousands of years. Its hexagrams are designed to represent the countless combinations of human experiences and archetypes. By casting coins or yarrow stalks to generate a hexagram, we are not relying on randomness but synchronicity. This process allows us to tap into the collective unconscious and reveal insights relevant to our current situation. Harnessing I-Ching Productivity for Enhanced Focus. To harness the I-Ching’s potential for enhancing focus and productivity, we must first approach it with an open mind and a sincere desire for guidance. Follow these steps to begin your journey with the I-Ching: 1. Quiet your mind: Before consulting the I-Ching, take a moment to clear your thoughts and center yourself. This will enable you to approach the oracle with a receptive and focused mindset. 2. Frame your question: Consider the specific issue you wish to explore or the guidance you seek. It’s essential to frame your question in a way that allows for open interpretation and multiple perspectives. 3. Cast the hexagram: Use coins or yarrow stalks to generate a hexagram. As you do this, concentrate on your question and allow the I-Ching’s wisdom to reveal itself. 4. Interpret the results: Study the hexagram and its associated text. Reflect on the insights it offers and consider how they can be applied to your situation. By utilizing I-Ching Productivity, you can access the collective unconscious and uncover insights that will help you make better decisions, gain clarity, and, ultimately, enhance your productivity, thus, I-Ching Productivity! Now remember, this may not be for everyone but the I-Ching offers a unique perspective on life and can be a powerful tool for self-reflection and personal growth. It has been said that the I-Ching is more than just an ancient text; it’s a living, breathing guide to the collective unconscious. By tapping into this reservoir of shared human experiences, we can gain insights that help us better understand ourselves and our place in the world. Doing so can unlock our true potential, enhance our focus, and skyrocket our productivity. The key to unlocking the power of the I-Ching lies in approaching it with an open mind and a sincere desire for guidance. As we navigate the complexities of modern life, the I-Ching offers a timeless and powerful tool for self-discovery and personal growth. By integrating its wisdom into our daily routines, we can cultivate greater focus, resilience, and productivity. Whether seeking clarity on a specific issue or simply wanting to deepen our understanding of ourselves, the I-Ching can serve as a trusted companion on our journey. Ultimately, the I-Ching’s ability to connect us with the collective unconscious provides us with a unique perspective that transcends the limitations of individual experience. This connection helps us uncover hidden truths and insights and fosters a sense of unity with the world around us. As we grow in understanding and compassion, we are better equipped to face the challenges of modern life and harness our full potential. I-Ching Productivity is just one of many ways that productivity can be expanded but by embracing the I-Ching as a tool for accessing the collective unconscious and enhancing productivity, we embark on a transformative journey that will enrich our lives in countless ways. In this age of constant change and uncertainty, the timeless wisdom of the I-Ching serves as a beacon, guiding us towards personal growth, inner balance, and achieving our goals. So, take a step into the realm of I-Ching Productivity and unlock the key to your true potential. So how can you get in focus and skyrocket your productivity? Call Dr. Get in Focus; he can show you! Entrepreneurs with ADHD: ALERT: 8 Reasons ADHD is NOT an Excuse for Failure

Redefining Success: Why Nothing holds back Entrepreneurs with ADHD from Achieving Greatness If there was one thing that entrepreneurs with ADHD need to constantly be aware of is that ADHD is NOT an excuse for failure. When I was first diagnosed with ADHD, my therapist told me I was not allowed to use ADHD as an excuse for failure. A few weeks later, I called her, asking her to write a note to the judge because I had forgotten to pay a traffic ticket; she refused, reminding me that I could not use ADHD as an excuse. She then told me I would probably not get prison time for a late speeding ticket. I paid the ticket and the late fee, an expensive reminder not to use ADHD as an excuse for failure! As an entrepreneur with ADHD, it’s vital to understand and embrace the unique qualities and strengths that each individual brings to the table. While ADHD can present particular challenges, entrepreneurs mustn’t use it as an excuse for failure. Instead, learning to harness its potential can lead to great success. 1. Recognizing the Positive Aspects of ADHD Entrepreneurs with ADHD possess several qualities that can be powerful assets to their businesses. These individuals are often creative, innovative, and able to think outside the box. They may excel at problem-solving and have a high tolerance for risk, which can lead to discovering new opportunities and ideas. By focusing on these strengths, entrepreneurs can turn ADHD into a competitive advantage. 2. Developing Strategies to Manage ADHD Managing ADHD doesn’t have to be an insurmountable hurdle. By implementing strategies such as using to-do lists, setting clear goals, and breaking tasks into smaller steps, entrepreneurs can overcome the challenges associated with ADHD and stay focused on their objectives. Additionally, incorporating time management techniques and prioritizing tasks can help entrepreneurs with ADHD stay on track and maintain productivity. 3. Building a Supportive Network Entrepreneurs with ADHD should surround themselves with a network of supportive individuals who understand their unique needs. This can include mentors, business partners, and employees who are able to offer guidance and encouragement along the journey. Building a diverse team that complements each other’s strengths can help entrepreneurs with ADHD to effectively delegate tasks and achieve their goals. 4. Embracing a Growth Mindset Entrepreneurs should adopt a growth mindset, which is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. By believing in their potential to overcome challenges and learn from setbacks, entrepreneurs with ADHD can push past any perceived limitations. Embracing a growth mindset encourages continuous learning and improvement, leading to increased resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity. 5. Seeking Professional Help Entrepreneurs with ADHD need to seek professional help if they need it. There are many resources available, including therapists, coaches, and support groups, that can provide guidance on managing ADHD and navigating the entrepreneurial world. Medication can also be an effective option for some individuals, helping to alleviate symptoms and improve focus. 6. Self-care and Balance Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial for entrepreneurs with ADHD. Prioritizing self-care, including regular exercise, proper nutrition, and sufficient sleep, can help manage ADHD symptoms and improve overall well-being. It’s also important to set aside time for relaxation and hobbies to recharge and maintain mental health. 7. Embracing Technology In today’s digital age, numerous tools and applications are available to help entrepreneurs with ADHD stay organized and manage their time effectively. Utilizing project management software, note-taking apps, and reminders can streamline processes and alleviate some of the challenges associated with ADHD. 8. Learning from Failures Here now are the keys to the kingdom; if you don’t apply anything else I have written, apply this: failure is a natural part of the entrepreneurial journey. By viewing failures as opportunities for growth and learning, they can develop resilience and cultivate a mindset that embraces challenges rather than fearing them. The upshot here is that it’s crucial for entrepreneurs (or anyone) with ADHD to recognize that their condition doesn’t have to be a barrier to success. By embracing their unique strengths, implementing strategies to manage challenges, and fostering a supportive network, they can turn ADHD into an advantage and achieve great things in the business world. Don’t let ADHD be an excuse for failure; instead, let it be a stepping stone toward success. So how else can Entrepreneurs with ADHD leverage its gift? Call Dr. Get in Focus; he can show you! Adaptability: Turning Curveballs into Home Runs Life is full of surprises, and so is running a business. Luckily, our ADHD brains have trained us to be masters of adaptability. We can pivot on a dime and turn those unexpected challenges into opportunities. Remember: when life throws you curveballs, channel your inner ADHD ninja and knock them out of the park. Developing a growth mindset and embracing change can help you stay agile in a continually evolving business landscape. ADHD Time Management: 3 Reasons Why the Dastardly Day Planner is Passe’ and what Actually Works

Why Day Planners Fail in ADHD Time Management Us and Better Solutions That (Probably) Won’t As an ADHD entrepreneur, I’ve tried every day planner known to man. I’m not kidding—I’ve got an entire room dedicated to my failed planner attempts. It’s my personal planner graveyard, where good intentions go to die. The truth is day planners just don’t work for many of us with ADHD. It’s like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, or more accurately, trying to get a hyperactive squirrel to sit still during a two-hour meeting (good luck with that). So, why do day planners fail us ADHD entrepreneurs? And more importantly, what are some better solutions that might—just might—help us wrangle our wild thoughts and ideas? Read on, fellow squirrels, as we navigate the chaotic world of ADHD Time Management. Why Day Planners Don’t Work for ADHD Time Management 1) They’re too rigid: Day planners are designed for neurotypical people who can follow a schedule without getting distracted by shiny objects, like that cool new app or a squirrel outside the window. Most ADHD brains don’t work that way—we’re more like a pinball machine, bouncing from one idea to the next. 2) Out of sight, out of mind: For ADHD entrepreneurs, if something isn’t right in front of us, it might as well not exist. So if we write something in our planner, there’s a good chance we’ll forget to look at it. You know, like those gym clothes we bought with the best intentions, now buried at the bottom of our closets. 3) They’re too detailed (or not detailed enough): Either we get overwhelmed by the minutiae of a detailed planner, or we’re left floundering in the abyss of a blank page. There’s no middle ground, and it’s enough to make us want to throw our planner against the wall (but we won’t because it’s already in the planner graveyard). Better Solutions for ADHD Entrepreneurs While day planners might not work for us, there are other tools and strategies for ADHD Time Management that cater to our unique ADHD brains. Here are some ideas that might keep us from spiraling into chaos: 1) The Pomodoro Technique: I love the Pomodoro Technique for ADHD Time Management! This method involves breaking work into short, focused intervals (usually 25 minutes) with short breaks in between (for our ADHD Brains, we may need to make it less than 25 minutes). It’s perfect for ADHD Time Management because it provides structure without overwhelming us. Plus, who doesn’t love the idea of racing against the clock to get stuff done? 2) Visual cues: Since we tend to be visual creatures, try using a whiteboard or large Post-it notes to map out your tasks and goals. Place them somewhere you can’t ignore—like the fridge or right in front of your desk. That way, even if we forget to look at our list, we’ll probably bump into it (literally). Also, every so often, you need to move the visual cue. If not, the brain will start to ignore it, and it will fade into the scenery. 3) Apps and gadgets: There are countless productivity apps and devices designed for ADHD brains, like time-tracking apps, focus-boosting headphones, and fidget toys. Try a few (or all) of them until you find one that works for you. Just don’t spend all your time trying out new apps instead of working—we see you. 4) Delegate and outsource: As ADHD entrepreneurs, we often struggle with delegating tasks. But the truth is, we can’t do everything ourselves (even though we’d like to think we can). So, learn to delegate or outsource tasks that don’t play to your strengths, and focus on what makes your ADHD superpowers shine. Day planners might not be our best friends, but that doesn’t mean we’re doomed to a life of chaos and missed deadlines. By trying out alternative strategies and tools designed for our unique ADHD brains, we can find ways to conquer our entrepreneurial goals without losing our minds (or our car keys, for the millionth time). So, fellow ADHD entrepreneurs, let’s embrace our quirks, ditch those dusty day planners, and find solutions that truly work for us. Sure, it might take trial and error, but that’s just part of the journey. And who knows—maybe one day, we’ll be able to clear out that planner graveyard and turn it into something more useful, like a room filled with trampolines or a squirrel sanctuary. Because, let’s face it, we deserve some fun too. Do you need help with your ADHD Time Management? Call Dr. Get in Focus; he can show you! An Unlikely Easter ADHD Survival Guide: 7 Tremendous Tips to be on Top of your Distractions

Hunting for Eggs and Sanity: An Easter ADHD Survival Guide Picture this: It’s Easter Sunday, and you’re surrounded by pastel colors, chocolate bunnies, and, of course, those pesky hidden eggs. As an adult with ADHD, you might not expect to find any valuable life lessons among egg hunts and family gatherings. But surprise! Easter traditions and themes can teach us a thing or two about thriving with ADHD – and we’re not just talking about how to find the last egg.  So get ready! Here is your Easter ADHD Survival Guide. 1) Planning and organization is the first step of Easter ADHD Survival Guide: The Great Easter Egg Hunt begins! Organizing an Easter egg hunt requires some serious planning and strategizing. And while the thought of organizing anything might make us ADHD-ers break out in a cold sweat, the truth is that honing our planning skills can help us stay on top of our responsibilities and achieve our goals. So, embrace your inner Easter Bunny, and start making those lists! 2) Mindfulness and reflection: Finding stillness amidst the chocolate-induced chaos. Easter is a time for contemplation and renewal. Though we might struggle to sit still and quiet our minds, practicing mindfulness and self-reflection can help us improve self-awareness and gain better control over our thoughts and emotions. Who knew a holiday filled with sugar highs could bring us some much-needed inner peace? 3) Patience and perseverance: The slow and steady race to the Easter egg jackpot. Sure, we may not be the most patient bunch, but Easter can teach us the value of perseverance. Just like searching for hidden eggs, managing ADHD takes time, effort, and a whole lot of patience. But if we stay persistent, we’ll eventually find our way to success (and maybe even a chocolate treasure). 4) Creativity and adaptability: Unleashing your inner Picasso on a dozen eggs. Easter egg decorating is all about creativity, experimentation, and thinking outside the (egg) box. As ADHD-ers, we’re naturally creative and resourceful, so why not channel that energy into finding innovative ways to manage our symptoms and thrive in various environments? Step aside, Monet – there’s a new artist in town. 5) Connection and support: Come together right now, over Easter brunch. Like many holidays, Easter is a time to gather with friends and family. For those of us with ADHD, having a solid support system can make a world of difference when it comes to managing our condition and fostering personal growth. So, reach out, lean on your loved ones, and remember that you’re not alone in this journey. 6) Embracing the unexpected: Life’s like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get. Let’s be honest – life with ADHD is anything but predictable. But Easter teaches us that surprises can be exciting and enjoyable. So, when life throws you a curveball, take a deep breath, adapt, and remember that there’s always something to learn and discover along the way. 7) Focus on strengths: We’ve got skills beyond finding the golden egg. Having ADHD doesn’t mean we’re lacking in strengths and talents. Easter reminds us to focus on our unique abilities and use them to our advantage in all aspects of our lives. So, hop to it and show the world what you’ve got! Who would’ve thought there would be an Easter ADHD survival guide? Between egg hunts, chocolate binges, and family gatherings, it turns out that this holiday is packed with valuable lessons for those of us navigating the ADHD rollercoaster. Now, if only we could find that last hidden egg! But Dr Get in Focus can help you find the hidden eggs of Focus and Productivity by implementing the Easter ADHD Survival Guide into your life and your career.  To set up your free appointment, click here on the link!  https://calendly.com/dr_work_from_home/get-in-focus-vip-session-clone Dr. Get in Focus works with businesses, entrepreneurs, and remote workers to get in focus and skyrocket their productivity. 7 (Un)Expected and Mighty ADHD Passover Lessons

ADHD Passover Lessons or Going From Wandering the Desert for 40 Years to Thriving with ADHD Let’s be honest: when you think about the Jewish holiday of Passover, the first thing that comes to your mind probably isn’t ADHD Passover Lessons.  I don’t ever remember hearing anyone say, “Oh, it’s the perfect guide for thriving with Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD).” But hold on to your matzah, my friends, because it turns out that there’s more to Passover than just parting seas and avoiding leavened bread.  Dr. GetinFocus hereby presents to you seven ADHD Passover Lessons. 1) Structure and routine: Because who doesn’t love a good Seder? The Passover Seder is all about following a specific order; for the ADHD mind, it’s practically a dream come true. Having a routine can be a lifesaver, helping us keep track of time and focus on the task at hand. So go ahead, embrace your inner Moses, and lead your way to a more organized life. 2) Preparation and organization: Less chaos, more order. Passover requires you to clean and prepare like it’s going out of style. And while we ADHD-ers might not exactly be known for our stellar organization skills, this holiday can serve as a reminder that there’s value in getting our ducks (or, in this case, bitter herbs) in a row. Just think of the satisfaction of crossing items off your to-do list! 3) Mindfulness and reflection: Let my thoughts be free! Passover calls for introspection and contemplation. So, even though we might struggle to sit still, practicing mindfulness and self-reflection can help us gain better control over our thoughts and emotions. Plus, who doesn’t want a little more peace of mind? 4) Perseverance and resilience: If they could do it, we all can! The story of Passover is all about overcoming adversity. And let’s face it, living with ADHD can sometimes feel like wandering through the desert. But if our ancestors could find their way to freedom, we can find our way to success and happiness, too – even if it takes us 40 years (or just a really long afternoon). 5) Community and support: Because we’re all in this together. Passover brings communities and families together. The importance of a robust support system cannot be emphasized enough. And for those of us with ADHD, having people in our corner can make all the difference. So reach out, ask for help, and remember you’re not alone. 6) Flexibility and adaptability: Parting seas? No problem. The Passover story teaches us the importance of adapting to new situations and finding creative solutions. And, as ADHD-ers, we’re nothing if not resourceful! So let’s use our natural creativity to devise innovative ways to manage our symptoms and thrive, even when life throws us a curveball. 7) The last of the ADHD Passover lessons is to Focus on strengths: Because we’ve got mad skills. Sure, the Israelites had their strengths, but so do we! It’s important to remember that ADHD doesn’t define us. Instead, let’s focus on our unique abilities and talents and use them to our advantage in both our personal and professional lives. So, there you have it: the unexpected ADHD Passover Lessons. Who knew that a holiday about liberation from slavery could be so relevant to navigating the trials and tribulations of adult ADHD? Now, if only there were a way to part the Red Sea of distractions… But YES,  Dr GetinFocus can help you deal with that Red Sea of distractions! Call Dr. Get in Focus; he can show you! 5 Cheeky Challenges of Aging with ADHD (And Solutions to Keep Your Chill)

Aging with ADHD Gracefully! They say age is just a number. But when you’re aging with ADHD, it is more like a magical adventure through a land filled with lost keys, half-finished projects, and untamed daydreams. Welcome, fellow travelers, to the mesmerizing maze of aging with ADHD, where your brain is always one step ahead (or behind) you, and you still can’t find your glasses (hint: they’re on your head). But don’t worry – we’ve got some solutions to help you find your chill and age gracefully. Challenge  1: Forgetfulness, or the Art of Losing Things in Style (and Finding Them Again) As we gracefully are aging with ADHD, forgetfulness turns into a refined art form. It’s not just about misplacing our keys anymore; we’ve leveled up to losing entire wallets, phones, and on occasion, our own pants. The solution? Designate specific spots for essential items and make a habit of putting them there. Sticky notes with reminders or a smart speaker to announce essential tasks can also be helpful. And if all else fails, invest in a key finder because why not turn losing things into a high-tech adventure? Challenge 2: Time Management, or the Endless Pursuit of the Perfect Planner (and Actually Using It) In our quest to become masters of time, as we are aging with ADHD, we inevitably fall into the bottomless pit of planner obsession. Bullet journals, digital calendars, whiteboards, sticky notes – we’ve tried them all. The trick is to choose one system that works best for you and stick with it. Set reminders, establish routines, and break tasks into manageable chunks. And remember, it’s not about having a perfect planner; it’s about consistently using it to manage your time. Challenge 3: Hobbies, or the Great Accumulation (and the Art of Letting Go)  As we are aging with ADHD, our collection of hobbies multiply like rabbits! From knitting to woodworking, we’ve dabbled in it all. While exploring new interests is great, it’s essential to recognize when we’ve taken on too much (In this case, I need to take my own advice, I have more hobbies than Imelda Marcos had shoes)! Try focusing on one or two hobbies at a time, and don’t be afraid to let go of the ones that no longer bring joy. After all, decluttering is good for the soul (and for finding that missing sock). Challenge 4: Conversations, or the Fine Art of Meandering (and Staying on Track) Aging with ADHD means mastering the delicate dance of conversation. We’ve honed our skills at veering off-topic, circling back, and then veering off again. To stay on track, use visual cues or mental anchors to help guide your discussions. And if you find yourself lost in a conversational labyrinth, don’t hesitate to ask for a gentle nudge back to the topic. Your friends will appreciate your efforts (and may even miss your meandering musings). Challenge 5: Memory Lapses, or the Game of “What Was I Saying?” (and Remembering It) As our minds age like fine wine, so does our penchant for forgetting what we were saying mid-sentence. To combat this, use mnemonic devices, like acronyms or visualizations, to help retain critical information. You can also practice mindfulness techniques to improve focus and mental clarity. And when those elusive thoughts slip away, don’t be too hard on yourself – everyone experiences memory lapses, ADHD or not. Embracing the Chaos (and the Solutions) Aging with ADHD is not for the faint of heart, but it’s also not without its charm – or its solutions. By implementing practical strategies and maintaining a sense of humor, we can navigate the challenges of forgetfulness, time management, hobbies, conversations, and memory lapses with grace and confidence. So, let’s embrace the chaos, wear our forgetfulness with pride, and remember to laugh at ourselves as we navigate this wild, whirlwind journey through time. And as we find and apply solutions to our ADHD challenges, we may finally discover where we put our chill – right next to our newfound sense of accomplishment and self-awareness.
