How May I Help You?

The above question is a normal expression for checking out the customer needs. Who is a customer? Is the one who buys goods or services. We all are customers now and then and enjoy the privilege of being served. Being served and being taken care of are two desires which are most sought after. It is the most luxurious sensation. Waiting for it to come your way may not be the best thing to do. Waiting is a killer. One waits for the help and complains of it not coming at the right time or never coming. Why wait, if one can start by passing the help on so one’s wait will be over in no time. Starting one’s day and seeking the opportunity of finding out as to “how may I help today?” Have a fulfilled life with all the luxuries and sensations that keep you interested in the business of living. Be a seller to be a buyer? Find a customer whom you can help today. Bon Voyage!!! – Alka Madan

Creating your Future

Future is going to be the next moment which is not there yet. This moment is not going to change to next moment. Next moment is a new moment. Life goes moment by moment. You have the power of creating next moment. You can decide to do it differently. You can decide to do it the same way. Life takes turn the way you want it to. There are external influences around but you let decide to let them influence you. You pick your friends, family members, teammates, players and that is how the game goes. Change the influences on you and you make different choices and hence a different new moment and the future changes. You create your moods, you create your destiny, you create your life. Once the creation is done you are the effect of that creation. You tend to believe that some one else did it for you or you wish that someone up above in the sky is controlling your destiny and if He desires life can be different. For a moment force yourself to smile. See, does it work? Create a blessed day. – Alka Madan

Becoming a Minimalist

Becoming a minimalist is new word that is catching up. The other day I met a young man who was traveling internationally expanding his business. During the conversation he pointed out that ” I am a minimalist“. The word sounded familiar but made me curious what it entails per him or for that matters for myself. What he meant was that he carries less stuff with him while traveling and it implied a great deal for me. I am traveling too through this journey of life, so less not more is what it takes for an easy journey. Everyone has to draw his own boundaries in being a minimalist. It can be being free of unnecessary holdings in your life, ranging from the clutter in the closet to the clutter in the head. It is your choice as to how much weight can you carry around. You can be free of clutter from the closet just by disowning and making more room but clutter from the head takes a great deal of effort to get rid off. “Reduce your screen time” can be your first step in decluttering your head. Do that for one week and see the result. – Alka Madan

An Act of Modesty by Global Women Power

Akanksha is a 15 year old girl from New Delhi, India. Currently, she is studying in 10th standard in a Central School. Mrs.Aarti Nanda used to teach her in a street school few years back and then she was admitted in a formal school with the help of one of the donors. The kind-hearted donor is paying her fees since then. The other expenses such as her books and other study material are borne by her father who works as a watchman. Mrs. Nanda found that even after attending these schools, not many children have continued with their studies in spite of all encouragement that is bestowed upon them. Akansha is amongst the very few who have reached this level and continue to enlighten their lives with education. Currently, Akansha lives in the outhouse of a community school as her parents cannot afford a home but wish to educate her. She acquires good grades at school and wishes to become a doctor when she grows up. Mrs. Nanda wants to help her by funding her studies and also prior to that helping her with some sort of career counselling so that she knows what she is planning for her future in terms of her studies is right for her. Mrs. Nanda on behalf of Global Women Power wishes to guide Akansha about her further educational process as her parents being uneducated are unable to do so.

Sky is Not the Limit

“Behind every successful man is a woman and behind every successful space mission in India, there are a thousand women scientists.” My today’s blog is about the 8 women who have been highly praised by Indian as well as international media for their work on MOM – Mars Orbiter Mission launched by ISRO!! Share Your Cake

Simplicity and frugality are two virtues and we need to inculcate them in ourselves and our younger generations. On this birthday, why don’t you do something different. Instead of having a big birthday bash, why don’t you do something different. This birthday, why don’t you spread smiles on the faces of less privileged children. A fancy party or celebration with extravagant expenses brings happiness to a few but a small contribution in life of less privileged kids will give happiness to many. Global Women Power launched – ‘Share Your Cake’ initiative. This initiative aims at inculcating the ‘Share and Care’ culture amongst the younger generation. Share Your Cake was launched in 2016 but looking at the positive feedback from the patrons, we decided to extend this initiative till 2018 and beyond. For more information on this initiative please visit our website http://globalwomenpower.com/share-a-cake/

NGO Adopts School

In my very first blog, I had written how education is important to everybody, be it a boy or a girl, every person has the ‘Right to Education’. Every kid deserves to read as many books as possible; every kid needs to express his or her own brilliant thoughts, ideas and reflecting them through the power of pen. It is a right of every child to explore what nature has to offer him. There are so many such children who cannot afford to buy books or pen and there are so many schools who cannot provide basic amenities to the students. Understanding this issue, recently Global Women Power adopted a School in India. On May 28, 2017 Global Women Power adopted the Government Middle School, (Gopalon Kotla in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab, India) under its ‘Adarsh’ school project. Alka Madan, founder of GWP made the announcement in a video message that was displayed to the students and faculty of this school. She announced that students of this school would be extended every possible help for their all-round development. On behalf of Global Women Power, Dr Seema Chopra of PGI (Chandigarh, India) was present at this event as the chief guest. She pledged to provide uniforms, nutritious food including fruits to the students. Shoes and socks were distributed to the students on this occasion. Dr Chopra also presented a check of Rs 51,000 to the school. The head of the school Jaswinder Singh Cheema read out the achievements of the school and thanked GWP and Dr Chopra for the noble gesture. Global Women Power is a non-profit organization which works in Bay Area, California and also across India. The main motto of our organization is to Educate, Enhance and Empower.

Old is the New Young

“I never feel age… If you have creative work, you don’t have age or time.” » Louise Nevelson This phrase by Louise Nevelson is so beautiful. With the fast paced life and growing need of technology, there is so much to explore every day. People living their second innings are learning new technologies and leaving no stone unturned to match up with the digital era. From creating an email to opening a Facebook account or using Whatsapp, this new generation of elderly people is well accustomed to everything. Few days back, I came across someone who was using a laptop for the very first time, his will to learn and enthusiasm was commendable. There are very few organizations which take the initiative of teaching senior citizens the latest trends in technology. Global Women Power is one such organization which has taken the initiative of educating elderly people and that too for free. We at Global Women Power understand the need of teaching the golden agers the hacks of digital era. Old is the New Young

Right to Education

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ― Nelson Mandela Every person living has the right to education. Every person has right to go to school, learn and become an intellectual. But even today there is restriction on boys and girls going to school. Why is it so? There are so many countries, cities, villages where education is not given due importance. There are people who just go with the thought that “what will you do after getting educated, boy has to look after his family business and girls have to take care of family”. This is so not fair on the part of these children who want to go to school, take education. Let us all come together and join hands in helping these kids who are deprived of education – Global Women Power
